A message from the principal ......

Petsworth Families,

Fall season and temperatures have arrived! Hand washing is very important right now as the germs are beginning to spread. We are actively wiping down furniture, door knobs, etc. around the school to minimize the spreading of any illnesses. Our division-wide Attendance Policy permits 8 parent notes for absences. Once the 8 parent notes are submitted, the absences are unexcused unless documented medically. Of course, these parent absences can include when your child is sick. But please obtain a medical note when possible, if seen by a physician. "Trips" or "vacations" are unexcused. Any note should be submitted no later than 3 days after the absence. Once your student has 3 unexcused absences, a letter will be mailed home to the parent. Another letter will be sent home at 5 unexcused absences. After the 6th unexcused absence, you will receive a letter requesting a conference with administration to set up a contract between parents, students and the school.

Please keep in mind that there is a 3:15 deadline to call in any changes in your child’s dismissal procedure – the office gets too busy if a call is made any later. If you bring your student in tardy, please escort them in versus just dropping them off. Tardy is based on the time the student is entered into the computer. Three unexcused tardies will now count as an absence.

Report cards come home on Thursday, November 15th. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher(s). Parents of students in grades 3-5 are able to sign up using the Parent Portal to view your child’s grades throughout the quarter. If you should need access information, please call our main office, and we will be glad to send that information home to you.

On November 2nd, all students will have an early dismissal at 1:30. School will be closed on Monday, November 5th and Tuesday, November 6th for professional development and voting to occur at the schools. Our schools will also be closed November 21st-23rd for Thanksgiving. Students will return to school on Monday, November 26th. Please be sure to read this newsletter, visit our school webpage and Facebook page for other events/activities occurring during the months of November and December. Don’t forget to join our PTA for $5.00! Our PTA, Community Engagement Coordinator, and several of our school staff members, host many fun and engaging activities for families. Don’t miss out! We enjoy time with all of our families and fellowship that follows!

I would like to wish each of you a healthy fall season and beginnings of the winter months. Please be sure to send your child to school with a jacket as the days become colder. The Petsworth staff wishes each of you a joyous and safe holiday season!

Most Sincerely,

Cathy Balderson, Principal
